Ein Blues, der, wie könnte es anders sein, von unglücklicher Liebe erzählt:

Ethel Waters, die als erste diesen Song interpretierte, erinnert sich:
"I sang 'Stormy Weather' from the depths of my private hell in which I was being crushed and suffocated....When I got out there in the middle of the Cotton Club floor, I was singing the story of my misery and confusion ... the story of the wrongs and outrages done to me by people I had loved and trusted"
Eine sehr coole Komposition, die viel Platz für interessante harmonische Wendungen lässt. Markant der Oktavsprung bei der Textstelle "stormy weather", die mit einer Bluenote beginnt und dann richtiggehend abstürzt.
